Wings Like Eagles — Those Who Wait for the LORD

"Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:30-31) The passage opens with a startling premise: even the youths — those with the most to spend — burn out. On our own strength, everyone hits the wall. The turn is "wait for the LORD." Waiting is not idleness; the Hebrew carries the sense of hoping, binding — like a vine twined around a tree, hanging its whole weight on God. Notice the order of strength: first soaring, then running, then walking. Everyone loves the soaring days. But "walk and not faint" may be the greater miracle — not giving up in the long, ordinary stretch with no end in sight. Where are you today — soaring, running, or barely walking? The promise of renewed strength belongs to those who wait. Prayer: Lord, I admit the limits of my strength. I wait for You; renew me according to Your faithfulness. Amen.
