Mark 14: She Has Done What She Could

Scripture

Mark 14

A woman breaks an alabaster jar and pours expensive perfume over his head. The room objects: this could have been sold and given to the poor.

Jesus defends her with a sentence that is easy to miss — she has done what she could.

Not what a wealthier person could have done, not what a more capable disciple would have managed. What she could.

Later in the same chapter, everyone who was more competent runs away.

Most of us disqualify ourselves by comparison. The standard here is smaller and harder: do what is actually in your hand, now, rather than the impressive thing you cannot do.
