Giving makes some people anxious, others defensive, and many confused: must it be exactly ten percent? Should I give when income is tight? Start with the foundation: "The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it" (Psalm 24:1). God does not need money; giving is our confession that everything is already His and we are stewards. The Old Testament tithe belonged to Israel's worship system. The New Testament does not abolish giving — it raises the bar from a percentage to the heart: "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Cor 9:7). Four New Testament principles: cheerfully (not coerced), according to means (even the widow's two coins), quietly (the left hand not knowing the right), and in faith (trusting the God who provides). The tithe can be a healthy starting discipline — but never a new legalism, never a boast. Give to the church's ministry, to mission, and to believers in need. May we all move from "I have to give" to "what a joy to give."
