Family Devotions: Bringing Faith Back to the Table
2026-07-18
Deuteronomy 6 commands us to teach God's words diligently to our children — "when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way." The first site of faith transmission is not Sunday school; it is the family table.
A sustainable 15-minute flow: one short song (3 min) → a Scripture passage (5 min, one reader or taking turns) → one sentence of sharing or one question each (4 min) → brief prayers in turn (3 min). Daily matters more than long.
Materials by age: picture Bible stories for preschoolers; Proverbs and Gospel narratives for grade-schoolers; teens can read John together and discuss honest questions — do not fear their sharp questions; that is faith coming alive.
Three common obstacles: "No time" — anchor it right after dinner rather than hunting for a slot. "Dad won't lead" — whoever carries the burden starts, and God uses it. "The kids won't cooperate" — hand the question-asking to them; participation beats perfection.
The BiblePro app's daily readings and audio Bible work beautifully for family devotions — four languages, all generations.
