Walk by Faith — 2 Corinthians 5:7

"For we live by faith, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7) Paul writes this while speaking of how our earthly "tent" will one day be taken down, and how God has already prepared for us an eternal home. Between that hope and today's reality lies a stretch of road, and that road is walked by faith. Notice that Paul does not say we sit by faith. He says we walk by faith. Faith is not a passive mood; it is a series of steps taken, one day at a time. Living "by sight" is our natural way. We want to see the outcome before we move, to map the whole journey before we start, to weigh every risk before we commit. But God rarely shows us the entire road at once. More often he lights only the next step in front of us, so that we learn to trust not the path we can see but the God we cannot see, who walks it with us. Walking by faith does not mean closing our eyes and pretending the difficulties are not there. Abraham looked at the reality of his aging body and still looked to the God of the promise. Faith is seeing the situation clearly and fixing our gaze on a God who is bigger than the situation. It does not deny the obstacle; it simply refuses to let the obstacle have the final word. So what is your next step today? Perhaps it is a word of forgiveness that needs to be spoken, an act of obedience that needs to be taken, a worry that needs to be handed over. You do not have to see the finish line before you begin to move. You only need to know the One who has called you, to know that he is faithful, and then to put one foot forward. He has already gone ahead of you. The life of faith is not reserved for spiritual heroes. It is the ordinary, daily choice to trust God with what you cannot yet see, and to obey him with what you can. Step by step, the road becomes a testimony. Lord, when I cannot see the way ahead, help me to trust you. Let me take the next step by faith today. Amen.
