Mark 12: Two Small Coins

Jesus sits opposite the treasury and watches people give. Many wealthy people put in large amounts. A widow puts in two of the smallest coins in circulation, and he calls his disciples over to point it out.

His measure is not the amount but what remained afterwards. The rich gave out of abundance; she gave everything she had to live on.

Two things follow. Nobody in that courtyard knew what they had witnessed except the one person who was watching properly.

And whatever is small in your hands today is not disqualified by being small. It is measured against what is left, not against what others put in.
