Come to Me — Rest for the Weary and Burdened

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) Jesus' invitation names its audience precisely: the laboring, the heavy laden. Not "all whose spiritual life is in order," not "all who have life figured out." The qualification is the weariness itself. He does not say "come to the doctrines" or "come to the rules." He says "come to Me." Rest is not a method; it is a Person. Then He adds, "I am gentle and lowly in heart," and invites us to take His yoke. A yoke is pulled by two oxen together — His yoke is a shared yoke: not the removal of all responsibility, but the exchange of hauling alone for pulling beside the Lord. The burden grows light not because it shrank, but because Another — the strong One — now pulls with you. What is your heaviest load today? He says: bring it. Prayer: Lord Jesus, I come weary. I take Your yoke and learn from You; give my soul rest. Amen.
