Praying with Scripture: Let God's Word Become Your Prayers
2026-07-15
Many believers run dry after a few sentences of prayer. Yet God has already placed the best prayer book in our hands — Scripture.
First, pray the Psalms. They are Spirit-breathed prayers. In sorrow, read Psalm 42 and make "Why are you cast down, O my soul?" your own cry; in gratitude, count God's benefits with Psalm 103.
Second, turn promises into petitions. Reading Philippians 4:19 — "My God will supply every need of yours" — pray: "Lord, I bring today's lack to You; provide according to Your promise."
Third, use the Lord's Prayer as a frame. Hallowing God's name, His kingdom, daily bread, forgiveness, protection — each line unfolds into concrete requests.
Fourth, read and pray in one motion. Read a passage, pause, and answer God with what you just read. Bible reading and prayer are two halves of one conversation.
